George Child & Family Welfare
The George Child & Family Welfare (GCFW) is a government-approved child protection organization that was established in 1926 to provide services in and around the town of George in South Africa. With the help of social and auxiliary social workers, the organization provides one-on-one therapeutic and statutory services to children in need of care and to their families. It also offers programs tailored for parenting, safety, life skills for children, and a special program for every school holiday.
The projects supported by the Foundation include:
- Sabine’s Haven – a place of safety for up to 12 children
- “Buddy” – which is a mobile unit providing various support services
- The Toy Library and Resource Centre – which supports early childhood development facilities
Furthermore, with the support of the Foundation, GCFW has enhanced its foster care program to accommodate children in need and provide protection through the Cluster Foster Home Initiative. It enables the organization to provide a stable home for children longer-term, support the foster parent(s), and facilitate social worker assistance.
